I wanted to start a new thread for tyre setups, and hope people will pipe in with what they used and have tried. I want this to be open to all makes of tyres, Rocket, Ufra, Kamtec, or any others that people want to talk about.
The reason I am starting this is because of what I learned from this last trip to the Worlds, and from racing over here also. It seems that larger races such as a Worlds, or Euros, or anything that brings out lots of cars, seem to bring out all kinds of strange tyre setups. It also seems that it dosent matter what kind of tarmac or asphalt you race on, certain tyres always work in certain conditions. Also even though all cars are similar (sort of) due to rules, all drivers are very different as far as what is comfortable and fast to drive. What I am hoping will happen is that we can break down tyre setups by track condition. This will hopefully help alot of people learn about where certain compounds are used and applied. I will start this off with some of my own setups, and others from team members, then others can pipe in with what works for them. I hope it turns into a something we all can learn from.
Life is much bigger than 3 golds and a Jap 40!
On my car at the worlds I ran all day Sunday with this:
LF: Platinum RF: Pearl
LR: Platinum RR: Platinum
I couldnt get the rear end to slide, so I needed the Pearl on the RF to help it turn in. I ran between 6mm and 7mm of rear stagger and between 4mm and 5mm of front stagger.
I believe both Stu Tennant and Simon Farrer had this setup:
LF: Magenta RF: Black
LR: Platinum RR: Platinum
They can correct me if I am wrong, but I am just about positive. I dont know what they were running for stagger, but I will find out.
The track was really smooth, and had lots of oil on it from so many cars practicing on Friday and Saturday.
My non oily setup here is normally this:
LF: Magenta or Gold RF: Jap 40 or Black if I need more steering
LR: Magenta or Gold RR: Magenta or a Pearl to help it turn
That is a good start, anyone else that would like to pipe in and give their setups, it would be great.
