Whats going on out there??
I figured I would fill everyone in on whats going on over here, and what we have been working on with tyre compounds. I did some testing, along with the rest of the team, and had some really great results! Here is what we tried, and what is new and upcoming.
First off the 4 compounds we had in Magenta, Pearl, Black, and Platinum all are still working well, and we are stocked up on each for the beginning of the year, and next season.
The Pearl and Magenta both work well on the rear, with either a pair of Magenta's on the back, or a Pearl on the outside rear for a high bite, or abrasive track... or even just because they handle well! Sometimes a Platinum can work very well on the inside rear also. A few drivers Ive spoken to use one all day, and some switch to it later in the day, as the oil gets down. The Platinum is almost identical to the SE Medium, which can be rather expensive, and or hard to get at times. My latest batch are wide enough that you can easily get three tyres out of a pair. It may not be like that forever, but great for now!
The Black compound has been a great tyre for the right front, when you need more bite in the front than a Jap 40, so this is a good time to talk about what Ive come up with for front tyres. First off I have a new compound which I have had limited access to at first, but now production is rolling, and it is called the Diamond. A few of you might have been lucky enough to get a pair from Simon. These have identical grip and feel as a Jap 40, but I am told they are more consistent, and wear slightly better. They other new front compound is called Topaz. This is of the same rubber family as the Black, but the next step harder. The initial tests with this tyre basically put it right in between the Black, and Diamond as far as bite goes, which makes it great for dialing in how much grip you need. For those that the Black was a little too aggressive for, the Topaz will take a little of that bite out, and still bite more than Diamond/Jap 40.
Now back to the rear. The new compounds for the back have tested really well, and will be great additions to what we already have. The compounds are Jade and Ruby, with the Jade being the softer of the two. Both myself, and Stu Tennant ran Jade's on the LR and the Ruby on the RR during every dry heat at the Worlds at Eastrax, with great results. The Jade's also seem to work really well in the cold weather, when almost nothing else will bite. Simon has had great luck with testing those. I am still sorting out a consistency issue with these, but for the most part, they have been pretty good, and I should have them well into production soon enough. Other team guys have tried these with other compounds in different combinations with great success. I will post setups as I get them either here or on the new team page which is still under development..... but coming soon!
I hope some of you that have tried any of these new compounds, or even some older ones, can get on here and talk about them, what you tried, and what worked for you. I know Simon is good at getting guys to try stuff, so let me know if you have.
