Hi Guys After 14 years absence i am starting to set up and race or attempt to race again. I have the car nearly set up but need some sort of indication of what diameter to start the outside rear tyre on a 6-33 ratio. can anybody out there help please?

Hi pexton,
That depends on if the track is wearing the tyre much then you have to start with a bigger size like 65-66 mm.
but if the track is greased you can start with 63-64 mm .
but then again it all depends on how much stagger you run at the back my Max is 4-5 mm
but i know that some of the guys run 8-11 mm stagger
so it's a trail and error proces.
Well i hope this helps
greetings from holland

hi Pexton, i agree with Maikel it is all about trying what is right for you, the bigger the back tyre i find the susspension works better, i would try 68mm on the out and 63 on the in, if you run a rear exhaust then you would probably run a smaller outside rear say 65mm and not as much stagger, see you at East Tracks Maikel, Scotty 67.

Glad to see you on here Pexton.... welcome!
Thanks for helping him out guys, some great answers.
I usually start the outside rear tyre as large as I can, of course it does depend on track conditions, amount of wear per heat, how much stagger I need, etc. Its really trial and error, and sometimes its whatever is in the box at the time! I know on a bumpy track like Leicester, larger tyres all the way around helped absorb the bumps better, and the smaller they got, the more the car over-reacted to to suspension changes. You will see guys like Jody Foster run them as big as he can for that reason, and like Scotty says it helps the suspension work better. I remember in Holland last year, I could run tyres alot smaller because their was little wear, lots of oil, and it was baby's arse smooth.
I hope all of this helps you figure things out..... if not please ask more questions!
See you all at Eastrax next month.... I cant wait to get over there!

tyre size depends to a large degree on how much actual ground clearance you can get away with. Using a cradle mounts you can use smaller inside rear tyres without grounding on th silly downward protruding engine mount bolt heads. Hence tyres last longer with cradles. Stagger is very important allied to having a suitable tyre rollout for 1. engine 2 track size 3 traction available see yu at eastrax
